75th Anniversary of Coronado Historic Site, with Historic Ranger Ethan Ortega

Air Dates:
May 23-25, 2015
This week's "Report from Santa Fe" celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Coronado Historic Site and features an interview with Historic Ranger Ethan Ortega detailing the history of what was first called the Kuaua Pueblo dating from 1200 A.D. until 1500 A.D. When New Mexico was celebrating the Quadricentennial of Coronado's expedition (1540-1940), New Mexico's first State Monument was established at the Coronado site in 1940. It is the home to rare painted murals in its ancient kivas and the pueblo itself contained at least 1200 rooms. Its location is one of breathtaking beauty as the pueblo sits on the banks of the Rio Grande overlooking the Sandia Mountains. The free celebration on May 30 will include reenactments, music, guided tours, and refreshments.
