This week's guest on REPORT FROM SANTA FE is Halla Tomasdottir, “Change Catalyst,” CEO of Sisters Capital, and runner-up for President of Iceland in the June election, and key founder of Reykjavik University.

Halla, an Icelandic business person and public speaker, also co-founded Audur Capital, an investment firm that focused on incorporating feminine values into finance.

Halla is a widely respected financial expert who is credited with guiding Iceland out of its financial “melt-down” in 2008.

As a candidate for President of Iceland this year, Halla came in #2, the runner-up.The New Yorker Magazine sent journalist Adam Gopnik to cover this historic election in Iceland, and he described Tomasdottir with these words: “Halla was not just sincere-looking, for a politician. She was the most sincere-looking human being I have ever seen, a living emoji of sincerity.”

Halla Tomasdottir was one of Newsweek's“150 Women Who Shake the World” in 2011, recorded a popular TED Talk in 2010, and was featured in the Iceland segment at the powerful close of Michael Moore's latest documentary “Where to Invade Next.”

Iceland was the first country in the world to have a democratically elected female head of state (in 1980). They are rated #1 in the world by the World Economic Forum in closing the gender gap. Tomasdotttir discusses gender equity on boards and why gender makes a difference in finance. She poses the question of whether feminine values can fix finance.
