Santa Fe was founded 400 years ago in 1610, and the city has been commemorating its 400th anniversary all year. While embracing the history of the ancient city, Mayor Coss is also trying to make Santa Fe one of the leaders in sustainability and alternative energy for the country. Santa Fe’s Affordable Housing, green building codes, green jobs and green energy awareness are copied by cities throughout the nation. This week's guest on "Report from Santa Fe" is Michael Cerletti, Cabinet Secretary for the NM Department of Tourism. Cerletti was the first Secretary of Tourism for the State of New Mexico, appointed in 1991 by Governor Bruce King. Cerletti has been in the hospitality business since he was 14 years old, and has managed some of New Mexico’s most beloved hotels - La Posada, Hotel St. Francis, the Plaza Real, Rancho Encantado. Cerletti also headed the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. In August Cerletti received a huge national honor when The National Council of State Tourism Directors named him “State Tourism Director of the Year for 2010,” saying “Mike Cerletti is being recognized as being best in the nation at what he does.” His novel approaches to tourism advertising have included the award-winning “Best Place in the Universe: New Mexico, Earth” ad campaign and numerous prize-winning Rose Parade Floats.
